Apprenticeships are an awesome way to start your career if university isn’t the right option and you would prefer to ‘earn and learn’ at the same time. You still get nationally recognised qualifications but also gain experience in the workplace right from the off and earn a regular income.
What is an Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship provides you with a job that also has formal training, assessment and a qualification attached. It means you gain a
wealth of experience on the job, as well as studying with a training provider, so you gain skills and knowledge relevant to your role.
Apprenticeships are such an exciting way to start a career and there are so many levels and types of apprenticeship now available!
Level 2
Intermediate apprenticeship, equivalent to GCSE level.
Level 3
Advanced apprenticeship, equivalent to A Level.
Level 4,5,6,7
Higher apprenticeship, equivalent to a foundation degree and above.
Level 6,7
Degree apprenticeship, equivalent to a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

Who Can Apply for an Avove Apprenticeship?
Anyone who is 16+ years old can apply for our apprenticeships. You will also need to be living in and eligible to work in the UK and not be in full time education. When you apply for one of our apprenticeships, please make sure you read the job advert carefully as:
- Some of our apprenticeships will need applicants to be 18+ years old due to health and safety reasons
- Depending on the level and type of apprenticeship, you may need some specific qualifications such as GCSEs at a particular grade
- Some of our operational sites can sometimes be difficult to get to because of the work we do, so make sure you would be able to get there and back each day if you got the job

Our Services and Teams
We do loads of exciting things in the utilities industry!
Water
We help make sure safe, clean water reaches homes and businesses all over the UK. We work with big water companies on projects to do with reservoirs, aqueducts and pipelines.
Wastewater
We help to design and build the UK’s wastewater network such as sewer diversions, storage tanks and pumping stations. These projects can be complex and mean our engineers are some of the best around!
Vegetation Management
Our arborist teams make sure that power supplies aren’t disrupted by overgrown trees or vegetation. This work also helps prevent wildfires and makes sure electricity is safely delivered to homes and businesses.
Design & Build
We help support UK water infrastructure by designing and building projects for our clients – everything is done in-house, and we see the projects through from start to finish.
Enabling Functions
From Marketing to Finance, we have lots of office-based roles that look after our people and our operations.

Our Apprenticeship Approach
We want you to reach your full potential and have the best start to your career with us, we will make sure that you have a structured apprenticeship programme that offers:
- On-the-job training
- At least 6 hours per week off-the-job training to work with your training provider, learn new skills and complete your apprenticeship studies
- Role-specific learning and development
- The opportunity to train as a STEM Ambassador, encouraging other young people to start their careers with us
- Early careers cohort events to build relationships with our other apprentices
- A dedicated people manager, mentor and early careers programme manager
Your Pipeline to Success
We onboard our apprentices at two main points in the year: March and September. For our March intake, roles will be advertised from November onwards. For our September intake, roles will be advertised from the January and April, depending on the apprenticeship level.
Once you begin your apprenticeship with us, you will get a two-day induction to make sure you have the best start possible in your role. After that you will work with your apprenticeship training provider to be inducted into your apprenticeship qualification and receive all your key training dates and access to your online portfolio system.
Our apprenticeship programmes vary in course duration at the end of your apprenticeship you will sit an End Point Assessment (EPA). An EPA is a series of activities with an independent assessor to check that you are competent in your role and qualification. There is no need to worry, we will support you throughout this process. Once you have passed your EPA, you will have the opportunity to move into a permanent role with us and continue your career journey.
Application Process
When you apply for an apprenticeship, you can choose to either send over your CV or, if you don’t have a CV, you can answer a set of simple questions through our application process. If we decide to progress your application, you will be invited for an interview. We understand that this can be scary, especially if you don’t have a lot of interview experience, but our apprentice interview process has been designed with this in mind and we will support you every step of the way.
Generally, when you come for an apprentice interview you will do three things:
- Have a short tour of where you could potentially be working and meet our team
- Carry out a short practical task linked to the role you are applying for
- Have a short interview with a member of the team
Don’t forget this process isn’t just about us interviewing you, you need to ‘interview’ us and make sure the role is right for you, and we are the right company for you to progress your career with, so make sure you ask lots of questions and try to meet as many people as possible.

- Check your spelling: Ensure all spelling and grammar is correct before you apply for the apprenticeship
- Language: Don’t use slang or ‘text talk’ when applying
- Tell the truth: Don’t lie on your application, it is likely you will be caught out at some point!
- Accurate: Make sure your contact details are correct, so we can contact you and check your emails regularly
