The Women’s Engineering Society

As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2023 (IWD – Wednesday 8 March), we are proud to announce we have become a member of the Women’s In Engineering Society, which is a charitable company that aims to support women in engineering.

About Women in Engineering
Women’s Engineering Society is proud of their rich heritage of inspiring, supporting and developing women in engineering. As the largest organisation of professional female engineers in the UK, they have the insights, expertise, and drive to enable workforces to thrive. The Society raises awareness of the importance that women have in engineering and focuses attention on the excellent career opportunities available in this exciting industry.

About International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity and is one of the most important days of the year to celebrate women’s achievements, educate and raise awareness for women’s equality and call for a positive change.

The theme For IWD 2023, is #EmbraceEquity, which aims to encourage important conversations on Why equal opportunities aren’t enough and “Why equal isn’t always fair”. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action. To embrace equity means to understand the journey required to achieve women’s equality. Learn about the campaign, and consider the difference between equity and equality.

Patrick Rafferty
Business Director Operations at Avove’s

I am proud to be the Executive Sponsor for women at Avove. As part of our social impact strategy, we hope that by raising awareness around gender equity and equality, we will be able to create a brighter future for women of all ages. However, as an industry we need to acknowledge that we don’t all start from the same place and to look at the barriers that exist within our systems, and to develop policies that allow equal outcomes.

Having a diverse workforce is vital to our industry’s success and I am proud that we are supporting International Women’s Day, a global day of celebration, to help highlight that women make such a positive contribution to our industry.

Nicola Disley
Team Leader at Avove

We can all play our part. Each one of us can actively support and embrace equity to forge harmony and unity, and to help drive success for us all. Women of all ages should be able to determine their own future, no matter where they are born. When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity and inclusion.

Kathryn Tighe
Partner Manager at The Women’s Engineering Society

On International Women’s Day, we are absolutely delighted that Avove has partnered with Women’s Engineering Society. As well as showing their commitment to diversity and inclusion within their own organisation, partnering with WES helps us to continue our vital mission of supporting women in engineering to fulfil their potential and to ensuring inclusivity with industry. We are very much looking forward to working with Avove in the future.

International Women’s Day was started in 1911, and remains an important moment for working to advance women’s equality with the day belonging to everyone, everywhere.
