Celebrating our Apprentice Arborists on World Youth Skills Day – 15 July 2023

World Youth Skills Day takes place on 15 July every year and has been celebrated since 2014 after the United Nations announced its existence. World Youth Skills Day aims to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.

Advancements in technology and a shifting labour market means, as an industry, we need to invest in our young talent and reduce the barriers to the world of work ensuring that skills gained are relevant, recognised and offer development opportunities for the youth of today.

On World Youth Skills Day, let us unite in recognising the potential of young people as catalysts for change and commit to providing them with the skills and opportunities they need to build a prosperous and sustainable world for all. Together, we can shape a brighter future where no young person is left behind.

At Avove, we are building our Early Careers Strategy and a key element of this is offering early careers opportunities and apprenticeships.

Oliver Freeman, Isaac Fisher, Jack Nettleton and Jacob Days have been working as Apprentice Arborists for the last two years, undertaking their Level 2 apprenticeship. They have been attending college to complete the course alongside on-the-job training.

They have now successfully completed their apprenticeships and secured permanent roles in our arboricultural teams.

We are very proud of our four apprentices who have successfully completed their course. All of them brought their theory and on-the-job training together and really applied themselves throughout the two years.

It’s really important for us as a team to support, guide and develop the skills of our young talent, especially in an industry which is experiencing a skills gap.”
