Our Services and Teams

We do loads of exciting things in the utilities industry!

Water

We help make sure safe, clean water reaches homes and businesses all over the UK. We work with big water companies on projects to do with reservoirs, aqueducts and pipelines.

Wastewater

We help to design and build the UK’s wastewater network such as sewer diversions, storage tanks and pumping stations. These projects can be complex and mean our engineers are some of the best around!

Vegetation Management

Our arborist teams make sure that power supplies aren’t disrupted by overgrown trees or vegetation. This work also helps prevent wildfires and makes sure electricity is safely delivered to homes and businesses.

Design & Build

We help support UK water infrastructure by designing and building projects for our clients – everything is done in-house, and we see the projects through from start to finish.

Enabling Functions

From Marketing to Finance, we have lots of office-based roles that look after our people and our operations.

Avove Apprenticeships

We are proud to offer a range of apprenticeship programmes at level 2(intermediate), level 3 (advanced), level 4 (higher) and level 6 (degree).  We are a diverse and inclusive company and want to encourage as many young people as possible to begin their careers with us no matter their identity, background or ability.  You will learn from our talented colleagues, gain a nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification, take part in bespoke training linked to your apprenticeship role, join our apprentice cohort events, get the opportunity to train as a STEM ambassador, use your digital skills to help us attract other young people using our social media platforms and earn a regular income.

Avove Graduate programmes

We offer specialist graduate roles, giving you the chance to learn from our talented colleagues, be mentored, take part in masterclasses, Insights training, development days, a formal induction week and bespoke graduate training, all whilst receiving a competitive salary.  Our roles will require a specific or general degree subject qualification at a 2:2 or above.  All our graduates need to be graduating in the same year as our intake or in the last 12-24 months. We want you to challenge the status quo, encourage different points of view and drive creativity as well as bring insights from your education and life experiences to the role. You should be agile, resilient and ready to take on real industry challenges.

Avove Internships

We offer paid 12-week summer internships to Civil Engineering students studying in their third or fourth years at university.

Our internships help students apply their learning, knowledge and skills in a ‘real world’ environment, enabling them to develop, share their ideas and gain key employability skills with many of our interns going on to secure full time graduate roles. Our internship programme will be expanded in 2026 to other areas of the business and to those who aren’t studying at university.

Our Top 5 Interview Tips

Interviews can seem scary for some people and even more scary if you haven’t had a lot of experience or are straight out of school or college.

Here are our top five interview tips:

  • Research the company you are interviewing for
  • Read the job description and for each skill note down how you can/have demonstrated it and link it to an example from something you have done
  • Consider why you are attracted to the role and our company
  • Think of some questions that you can ask the employer at the end of the interview
  • When answering the questions, use a strong voice, give eye contact if you can
  • Try to stay calm and be positive. Don’t forget, they have invited you for an interview, so you have obviously impressed them

Early Careers FAQs

What are early careers opportunities?

These are things like apprenticeships, graduate roles, internships, T Level placements, work experience placements and year in industry placements.  Basically, jobs or placements for young people while in education or straight out of school, college or university.

Which of our locations offer early careers opportunities?

This will differ each year depending on what roles the business wants to bring in.  Our job locations will always be on our early career’s adverts. If you are unsure, please contact us.

Do I need a degree to embark on an early careers programme?

Only for our graduate roles.  Some of our apprenticeships may need GCSE or A Level/ Btec qualifications, it just depends on the level of apprenticeship.  All qualifications you need will be made clear on the job advert. If you are unsure, please contact us.

At what age can you apply for an early careers role?

You can apply for our roles from the age of 16.  Some of our apprenticeships will need people who are 18 years and over and this will be because of health and safety requirements.

Are early careers the same as entry-level roles?

They are similar but our early careers roles will have development programmes and qualifications attached to them and you will also be a part of our early career’s community.

What early career programmes and schemes can I apply for?

If you have a recently got a degree, then you can apply for our graduate programmes.  If you are over 16 years of age you can apply for our apprenticeships unless they need someone who is over the age of 18.  Those studying T Levels can apply to do a T Level placement with us.  If you are 14+ or an adult returner to the workplace, you can apply for work experience and if you are a current Civil Engineering student in university, you can apply for any internships we are offering.

What is the Early Careers application process?

It will depend on what you are applying for.  If it is a graduate, apprentice or intern role then you will need to apply through our recruitment pages and submit a CV and/or answer some set questions.  After that it will be a series of interviews and site visits if needed.  For T Level or Work Experience placements there are links on those pages to apply through.
