Supporting BBC’s DIY SOS: Children in Need Big Build
We are proud of our Civils Engineer team, led by Site Supervisor Jonny Eyre, who were able to jump on board to help out with BBC DIY SOS Children in Need Big Build and put in the final touches for Getaway Girls, based in Seacroft, Leeds, to ensure they could open the doors to their brand-new headquarters.
The charity, Getaway Girls, has been providing support and empowering girls and young women in Leeds for over 30 years – building confidence, resilience and raising aspirations. When a local developer gifted them land in #Seacroft, BBC DIY SOS, the local community and an army of tradespeople dug deep to complete the build – and we’re proud to have played our part in making a difference to this charity.
How we helped:
Our team of experts were called in to oversee the laying of the new wastewater pipes. We would like to say thank you to our team – Jonny Eyre, Lee Parker, John Durkin, Andy Piper and Luke Cherry for supporting this great project.
Thank you once again for all your hard work and generosity, we’re delighted with how the programme has turned out and hope you all enjoy watching too. The charity is over the moon with their new building which will allow them to do even more good work with the girls and young women of Leeds in a safe and secure space that meets all their needs.
BBC’s Producer of DIY SOS The Big Build, Bel Weaver
As a team, we were thrilled to be involved in the DIY SOS Big Build for Children in Need supporting Getaway Girls in Leeds and thank Avove for allowing us the time to work on the project which has delivered a much-needed new building for the charity.
Previously, my family and I have been helped by charitable organisations and it is great to give a bit back and feel like you are making a difference. We all get tied up with everyday life and we can sometimes forget there are people less fortunate than ourselves, and this has been a wonderful project to be a part of.
